Newsletter – Autumn 2018

Dear users of the Medtronic Insulin Pump,

Repeating the importance of regular change of your infusion sets and reservoirs is never enough.

To get better glucose control and look after your skin and tissue health it is important to change your infusion set after 2-3 days.

  • Blood glucose levels increase for each additional day you wear same infusion set
  • Delaying your set change may increase the chance of skin irritation, swelling or infection
  • More set problems, such as leakage or poor adhesion, start to occur the longer you use the set
  • Don’t forget the reservoir! Insulin reservoirs are important parts of your insulin pump system. It is also important to change them every 2-3 days
  • Fill your reservoir with the insulin supply you need for 3 days and don’t forget to get the all air bubbles
  • Wash your hands and disinfect the infusion site
  • Change the infusion site regularly, rotating gives your skin a chance to recover and helps to ensure that insulin is absorbed easily
  • Check your glucose level 2 hours after the insertion to make sure that cannula is positioned correctly
  • Stay well supplied, always have the supplies ready for when you need them
